• Deb Chalmers

Deb has included dance in her life since the age of 3! She completed examinations in Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Theatrical and Acrobatics and in her teenage years belonged to a Performing Arts and Entertainment Agency which offered terrific performance opportunities on television, in local festivals, Expo ‘88, travelling pantomimes, cheerleading for the Brisbane Bullets in the 80’s, shopping centre shows, cabaret productions, corporate gigs and even magic shows.

After teaching dance in various dance schools in both Brisbane and Melbourne, Deb completed her BA in Leisure and Recreation Management then opened her own Dance Studio which operated for 10 years. Moving to the Gold Coast prompted Deb to continue her passion, share her love of dance while meeting new dance friends…..so The Retro Dance Divas was created.

Deb is thrilled to share her Retro library of moves and grooves with her Divas.

  • Debra King

Debra started dancing at the age of 3 and it became very clear that performing was ‘her thing’. She took Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Contemporary classes and spent her childhood competing in local Eisteddfods. At 17 she was accepted into the Full Time Dance course at QUT. After a break from dancing she was offered a role in the Gold Coast Arts Centre’s production of Oliver. She has taught at a performing arts Dance School in Brisbane and dancing has remained her passion with a love of musical theatre. Now the Retro Dance Divas classes are the highlight of her week where she continues to share her love of dancing and performing.

  • The Debs

“If it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be, no matter how long it takes”

Deb and Debra grew up in different towns in the same era, studied and performed dance at different venues but somehow found each other during recent rehearsals and the performance for the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony Dance Troupe on the Gold Coast!

“We instantly ‘clicked’ (with a Jazz Hand thrown in too!) and enjoyed sharing our dance stories, backgrounds and dance moves with each other”…… soooooo……Debra came on board to teach with the Retro Dance Divas and they haven’t looked back since.

Deb and Debra look forward to combining forces and presenting the best they can in each and every Retro Divas Dance Class.

“Friends that dance together, stay together”
